Commiphora Frankincense Resin
Commiphora wildii
Origin Namibia
Commiphora wildii, or Omumbiri endemic species prevalent among the commiphora species in Namibia, grows on rocky slopes between 600 and 1000 meters above sea level, in the northern regions. It has an average height of about 2 meters, but extends horizontally for almost 8 meters.
During the dry season, the Commiphora resin is spontaneously exuded from the plant and solidifies in the air within a few weeks. It is collected before the rainy season by Himba women, who use it for its pleasant fragrance, mixing it with butter and ochre, making a kind of balm that is spread on the skin.
